AWS re:Invent 2012 saw the launch of one of the fastest growing AWS Service ever i.e. Amazon Redshift – Data Warehouse on Cloud.

Today at the Keynote session in AWS re:Invent 2013, Andy Jassy, Senior Vice President, Amazon Web Services made a few big announcements and launched Services like AWS CloudTrail, Amazon WorkSpaces & Amazon AppStream.

AWS re:Invent 2013

1. AWS CloudTrail is currently in Beta. CloudTrail is a web service which captures AWS API Activity and delivers log files. The information captured in the log file includes,

  • Identity of the API caller
  • The time of the API call
  • The source IP address of the API caller
  • The request parameters
  • The response elements returned by the AWS service

2. Amazon WorkSpaces: With this announcement AWS has taken the concept of Cloud Computing to a completely different level and would unnerve major players in Desktop Virtualization. It’s a fully managed desktop computing service in the cloud. This allows users to easily provision cloud-based desktops and allow access to documents, applications and other resources with the devices, including laptops, iPad, Kindle Fire, or Android tablets. Users will be able to simply login to their AWS management console and provision a high-quality desktop experience. For now users can signup for Limited Preview.

3. Amazon AppStream: It’s a flexible, low-latency service that lets users stream resource intensive applications and games from the cloud. It enables you to deploy and render applications on AWS and streams the output to mass-market devices. It can easily scale to handle vast computational and storage needs. It includes a SDK that currently supports streaming of applications from,

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 to devices running FireOS, Android, iOS, and Microsoft Windows.  
  • A Mac OS X SDK is also planned to be launched in 2014
