Amazon Web Services today announced expansion in the Indian market with availability of edge locations for Amazon CloudFront and Amazon Route 53 in India. AWS announced addition of edge locations in Mumbai and Chennai today. With this announcement, CloudFront has a network of 42 edge locations across the globe.
Amazon CloudFront is AWS’s Content Delivery Network (CDN). Edge locations in India is definitely good news for existing AWS customers in India using CloudFront, it improves the end user experience with lower latencies and faster access to the content.
Given the pay per use pricing model of CloudFront (and all other AWS services), it provides a lucrative option to customers paying huge amounts onlong-term, fixed price contracts with other vendors for their Content Distribution requirements.
Today’s announcement will see a surge in the number of customers adopting CloudFront, specially from the large media houses in India with an online presence. Total number of AWS customers in India exceeds 8000 according to the official numbers from AWS, which include large media houses like NDTV, Sony Entertainment Television, Hungama.com among others.
